Scotland claimed their third Partnership Trophy with victory at Celtic Manor this week, following two days of closely fought competition between teams representing the nations of the TGI Golf Partnership.

The event, held in association with Callaway, Callaway Apparel and TravisMathew, saw eight Partners representing each of England & Wales, Scotland and Ireland compete across Fourballs and Singles, with national pride and the Partnership Trophy at stake.

After two days of competition, it was Scotland who emerged victorious, finishing two-and-a-half points clear of hosts England & Wales, with six-time winners Ireland finishing in third place.

Scotland took control during the opening day’s Fourballs, winning two of their four matches, while the remaining matches of the day were halved. The result gave Scotland a three-point lead over both England & Wales and Ireland heading into the Singles on day two.

With the Singles played in three-balls, three points were available for the winner of each group, two for second place and one for third, meaning there was still plenty to play for as the final day got underway.

Scotland’s Graeme McDougall from The Bishopbriggs Golf Club produced the standout individual performance of the day, carding a level-par round on the long and demanding Twenty Ten Course at Celtic Manor to help secure the trophy for his team.

The victorious Scottish team was represented by Graeme McDougall (The Bishopbriggs Golf Club), Stephen Maxwell (Paisley), Michael Kanev (Aberdour), Cameron Farrell (Clober), Cameron West (Scotscraig), Stuart Morrisson (Tain), David Patrick (Bruntsfield Links) and Stephen Gray (Easter Moffat).

Representing England & Wales were Aaron Hodkin (Wheatley), Ben Ratcliffe (Kilnwick Percy), Chris Wyatt (Tiverton), Danny Hill (Bush Hill Park), Ian Mowbray (Liphook), Mark Butler (Butler’s Golf Centre), Mike Bradley (Hollinwell) and David Haines (Burnham & Berrow).

The Irish team was made up of Brendan O’Leary (Lisheen Springs), Brian Kerley (Ardee), Brian Sweeney (Corrstown), Colin O’Gorman (West Waterford), Damien McGrane (Carlow), David Barry (Douglas), David Ryan (East Cork) and Fintan Lacey (Donabate).

TGI Golf Managing Director Adele McLean said: “Once again, the Partnership Trophy proved to be an amazing event, bringing together Partners from across the UK & Ireland for two days of great competition.

“Most importantly, it gave our Partners the opportunity to come together, share experiences and ideas with their peers and enjoy some time together away from their businesses. Seeing everyone mixing, chatting and enjoying the event is an amazing sight and exactly what the Partnership is all about.

“Thank you to everyone who took part in the three qualifiers held earlier in the summer, to those Partners who earned their place in the teams and, of course, to our amazing sponsors Callaway, Callaway Apparel and TravisMathew for their continued support.”

With this victory Scotland move into second place in the all-time winners table, still trailing Ireland who have six, and one ahead of England & Wales who have two wins.
